Chapter 3

Characteristics & Blood Type
Some people believe that your astrological sign can reveal your personality character and that reading your horoscope can predict your destiny. But many believe that the clues to people’s character and future lie not in the stars but in their blood type. Some company has used it to evaluate job applicants. Dating services consult blood types to pair couples. So, is blood type just a fortune-telling fashion in world, or does it really reveal something about you?

Blood is made of the same components–red blood cells (oxygen-transporting cells), white blood cells (infection-fighting cells), platelets (factors that help blood clot), and plasma (the fluid that carries blood cells)–but not all blood is alike. Everyone has one of four possible blood types: A, B, AB, or O. Humans’ different blood types depend on the presence of molecules, called antigens, attached to the surface of red blood cells. Blood type is one way people share information about each other. It also generates a sense of knowledge with people whom you might otherwise not get to know on a first-person basis.

The theory that blood type is linked to personality (and other mental and physical qualities) is popular mainly in Japan, though it has carried over to Taiwan and South Korea. It was started by the Germans in 1901, who, after the discovery that certain races are more likely to be predominantly of certain blood types—such as Asians being more likely than other races to be type B—used the theory to "scientifically" explain Aryan genetic superiority.
The theory experienced a popular resurgence in 1927, when Takeji Furukawa, a professor at Tokyo Women's Teachers School, published a paper entitled "The Study of Temperament Through Blood Type" in the journal Psychological Research. After failed militaristic and social experiments, the unscientific nature of the theory was widely understood, and it lost popularity during the 1930's. It was revived again in 1971 by Masahiko Nomi's book Understanding Affinity Through Blood Type.
Nomi was a lawyer and journalist with no medical training or background. Despite Nomi's lack of scientific proof, anecdotal basis, and unclear methods, as well as constant attacks on the theory from the medical and psychological communities, the theory is still very popular in Japan. Japanese celebrities frequently include their blood type in their profiles, along with age and hobbies. It is frequently included in character descriptions in manga, television shows, and video games. Apart from the more standard services, Japanese matchmaking services frequently include blood type as a consideration. It is also common for people to exchange their blood types when meeting, and some consider it unusual for a person not to know
Every Japanese celebrity writeup and every anime character description with any claim to authority gives the person's (or character's) blood type. Why? Because, thanks to a remarkable bit of Science! by a gentleman named Furukawa Takeji, the Japanese believe that a person's blood type affects their personality.

Origins
It can be argued that one of the three alleles is ancestral to the other two. For example, the origin of the O allele, and subsequently blood type O, is simply the result of the deletion resulting in a loss of function of glycosyltransferase activity for the A antigen. A mutation resulting in the loss of function in a protein, at best, would be a "nearly neutral" mutation since blood type O does not appear to have any deleterious effects or selective advantage over the other two blood types.

Famous Type Os
Elvis Presley, Prince Charles, Al Capone, and Queen Elizabeth.

Health
Individuals of Type O blood have the thinnest blood, strongest immune systems, strongest stomach acids, and live the longest of all the blood types. Type Os are however, prone to digestive disorders, more susceptible to arthritis, and thyroid disease due to an overactive immune system. Foods such as wheat and dairy also promote inflammation for this blood type that can trigger an imbalance in immunity.

Nutrition
Type O is the oldest blood type in which people hunted for their food to survive focusing a predominant meat diet. Type O’s are encouraged to eat lean red meats and poultry but limited in dairy products, grains (wheat is high on the list to avoid) and legumes. Although this nutrition is high in animal protein, the type O requires intense physical exercise to help burn off the meat.

Characteristics
People with the Type O blood group, are said to be creative, confident and, they enjoy being the center of attention. Type O's are also outgoing and very social, though mostly initiators, they may never get to finish what they start.
You want to be a leader, and when you see something you want, you keep striving until you achieve your goal. You are a trend-setter, loyal, passionate, and self-confident. Your weaknesses include vanity and jealously and a tendency to be too competitive. Are usually the "cheerleader" of the group. Tend to be more followers than leaders, accepting whatever the plan is and going alone with it without protest. Very generous and kindhearted.  Generally well-liked by most people. Very flexible, and adapt easily to change. They are easily influenced by others, as well as perceived authorities, such as television personalities. Generally trustworthy, but can sometimes make mistakes due to lapses of focus.

Origins
The first mutation from blood type O was blood type A. A blood types came about when people started to migrate to places which had no animals present to feed from or were not abundant. Since type A mutated from type O, this blood type is very similar to type O and can eat many of the same animal proteins that can be consumed by blood type O.

Famous Type As
George H. W. Bush, Ayumi Hamasaki, O.J. Simpson, Britney Spears, Alan Alda, Adolf Hitler, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jet Li, Maki Nomiya, and Rick James.

Health
Research shows that most cancers are type A related, and the majority of A's eat a meat and potato diet and lots of foods unsuitable for their type, it is indeed predictable this blood type would be overwhelmed with high blood pressure, diabetes, anemia, cancer, and heart disease.

Nutrition
The type A is a more of a vegetarian diet. It is the second blood type to evolve as populations settled into agrarian lifestyles. People living in those areas have adapted and evolved due to the demographics. Type A's are advised to consume legumes, beans, cereals, fruits, vegetables, and small amounts of dairy products but eliminating all meats. The type A individual hardly produces much hydrochloric acid and does poorly on meat and dairy as a result. So, Type A’s are recommended to not eat red meat, he/she should also refrain from intense exercising and focus more on yoga, meditation and stretch classes. The reason is that type As consume fewer calories in general when they are not eating meat. There is gene for alcoholism found in Type A’s. They are also generally more vulnerable to cancer, diabetes and heart disease if they do monitor their health more carefully.

Characteristics
People with the Type A blood group, are said to be very trustful, honest and conscientious to a fault. Type A's are also known to be perfectionists, they might seem outwardly calm but tend to have balls of nerves within. Type A are also artistic and are sometimes shy and sensitive too.

Tend to try and keep their emotions and thoughts hidden from others, and share them only when comfortable.

Origins
Type B blood was the third mutation through man's adaptation, after types O and A. Individuals of this blood group share some characteristics of types O and A. Although they represent a mix of the two previous blood type in some ways there are some very notable exceptions.

Famous Type Bs

Jack Nicholson, Luciano Pavarotti, Tom Selleck, Mia Farrow, Paul McCartney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Vince Young.

Health
We found individuals of type B blood tend to contract diseases such as polio, lupus, and rare disorders such as Lou Gehrig's disease. Type Bs also function better on a moderate exercise program. They suffer from the highest incidence of bladder and urinary tract infections. Type B’s are also prone to viral diseases when their immune system is compromised. I’ve personally had similar experiences with the few I've mentioned since I fall into this blood type category. However, with the continued persistence of having a healthy mind, body, and spirit has helped me persevere through.

Nutrition
Type B's can eat meat (but not chicken) in moderation without having to worry about developing heart disease. The type B should also eat dairy products, all fruits, most vegetables, and some beans. They are to avoid nuts, seeds and wheat.Type B individuals have the ability to eat and metabolize dairy products, which both type O and type A do not tolerate very well.

Characteristics
People with Type B blood group, are strong willed, goal oriented, they always finish whatever they start, whether in perfect timing or in excellent fashion. People with Type B blood group, always seem to find their own way in life.
Tend to be exceedingly curious about everything. Are easily vexed and grow exasperated if things don't go the way they want them to go. Usually have a strong drive to be the best at whatever they set their mind to doing, however, they also tend to neglect other tasks for the sake of whatever they are focusing on. Have a hard time multi-tasking. Tend to be loners, and keep themselves isolated from others.

Origins
Type AB blood type is the only blood type that did not evolve as the previous two blood types. Blood types A, B, and O have been around for centuries but blood type AB has only been around for about 2000 years. Blood type A and B evolved because of a change in our environment but blood type AB did not.

Famous Type ABs
John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger, Thomas Edison, Bob Sapp, Miyavi, Jackie Chan, and Barack Obama.

Health
Exercising for the type AB is predominately qi gong, yoga, meditation and mentally quieting exercises calming and invigorate the body. Aerobic type exercise is fine as long as it is not done to the extreme. AB types are prone to either diseases encountered by the type A or the type B individuals.

Nutrition
Blood type AB is referred to as enigmas because it combines a Type A and Type B diet requiring meat but in fewer portions. This is the rarest and newest blood type to evolve and it is best adapted to a moderate diet. Type AB people benefit from a combination of A and B type nutrition. They are allowed to eat some meat and dairy products. Type AB’s can have a limited portion of wheat products, most fruits and vegetables. Meat is not as well digested compared to fresh fish, dairy, soy and wheat-free grains.
Characteristics
Those with a Type AB blood group, are an interesting lot indeed, though they are trustworthy and honest, its being said that they seem to have a split personality! Type AB blood group also like helping people, they are outgoing and confident but they can also be shy too.

Are sometimes looked at as having 2 personalities, because they tend to keep their true selves hidden from strangers. They have many friends, but also require time alone.
